The Bramble Story

The Bramble Logo: a wreath of vines circling the words "Bramble Theatre Collective". A blackberry and flower decorate the wreath.
Bramble Theatre Collective grew out of a group of friends meeting at UBC through a musical theatre club. We were all pursuing different degrees (none of which were in theatre), but all had a deep love of theatre. The club allowed us a space to create theatre regardless of our levels of experience with it, but as university drew to an end, finding a new space that focused on nurturing people’s love of theatre in a safe, exploratory environment became far more challenging. Bramble Theatre Collective was formed to provide this space.
We want to create a community of theatre artists of all kinds: whether someone has never put on a show, has taken a break to pursue a different career, or is just taking their first steps after theatre training, they are welcome in Bramble. “Theatre For All” is intrinsic to our mission: we work with people regardless of training or experience and instead focus on what they could get out of the experience. Bramble produces spaces for artists to engage with theatre in meaningful and helpful ways for their development, and we encourage artists to bring their expertise both from within and outside of the theatre world to these spaces.
Bramble strives to be an inclusive, equity-focused collective, and we strongly encourage participation from people who identify as a member of an underrepresented or marginalized community – including but not limited to women, IBPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and people with disabilities.
Our leadership team works together as a collaborative, non-hierarchical collective. This model of lateral leadership means we follow a common vision and take action as a team. Responsibilities are distributed based on our strengths and individual interests.
Our logo was designed by local artist Maya Parker. You can find more of their work on Instagram at @mayaparker8 or through their website.
